Sandy added the last\u00a0bit of yesterday’s blog for those of you who have been awaiting her comments.<\/p>\n
We’ve been here a month, hard to believe. Monday is my day off, Sandy has French class. Got our\u00a0baguette<\/em>today from a tea salon near here called Bread & Roses, 62, rue Madame. Even better than Boulanger Madame.<\/p>\n Today was an architecture day. (Brigitte, I trust you are reading this.) This afternoon, we went to the new library, another Mitterand\u00a0projet<\/em>. The\u00a04 buildings, designed by Dominique Perrault,\u00a0are L-shaped to look like open books, with a lovely park in the middle of them.<\/p>\n We then crossed the river and sauntered over to the Frank Gehry “American Centre” as it was originally called, it’s now the Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que Fran\u00e7aise. Has the\u00a0Picasso-esque three-dimensional structure on the\u00a0parc de Bercy\u00a0side and the traditional (or, as the architecture guide calls it, “parallelpieds”) relatively-straight Parisian\u00a0frontage on the rue de Bercy side.<\/p>\n A few weeks ago, we were at the Promenade des Plant\u00e9e. Underneath it, along Avenue Daumesnil are diverse boutiques of various kinds, kitchenware, fabric, art, etc.<\/p>\n After dinner at a cheesy, touristy\u00a0but friendly-enough place (built in 1591 or some such) a friend recommended, Au Vieux Paris d’Arcole, 24, rue Chanoinesse,\u00a0www.auvieuxparis.fr<\/a>,\u00a0we went to a sensational jazz\u00a0gala at the lovely, old Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Ch\u00e2telet, and heard Joe Lovano, Ron Carter and some other great musicians. The two pianists were beyond description.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
